My Favorite Gardens and Green Spaces

Longwood Gardens

Longwood is located in the horticulturally rich Brandywine Valley, and it's where I earned my Certificate in Ornamental Horticulture, and have taken many classes in landscape design, photography, drawing, and floral design. The summer fountain shows are exceptional, the conservatory is world class, and the holiday display is one of the best in the country. It's also the location for many of my photos.

Fitler Square

Fitler Square is the name of a neighborhood as well as the elegant 19th Century park in Center City, Philadelphia, so a lot of the photos online lack any horticultural relevance, but  The Cultural Landscape Foundation has an excellent profile and collection of photos. Rittenhouse is Fitler's much larger and much more famous cousin, but lacks the intimacy of a neighborhood square - on the other hand, it's probably one of the best urban parks in the country. Fitler is special to me because that's the park my Grandmother frequently took me to when I was in preschool, and quite literally my first exposure to landscape design, and anything more formal than a ballfield.

Many more garden profiles and links to come!

This page will grow to dozens of entries, probably 2-3 at a time, in the coming months - writing this section has brought back a lot of great memories, and whether it's for publication or personal use, I suggest everyone try this exercise!
